Shannon is Brainspotting Trained
Hi, I'm Shannon
in person in NC, virtually in NC and CO
my pronouns are she/her
Welcome! I’m Shannon, a person who is often found down by the nearest river, on a hike, gardening, reading a fantasy book, or laughing until I cry with dear friends. I like to show up as myself in the work I do as a therapist. If you are looking for a therapist that is soft spoken, doesn’t cuss, and isn’t direct…then you have somehow stumbled on the wrong bio…. Or maybe the right one. Who knows? Let's chat though!
Have you ever been to a party or social gathering and found yourself spending more time with the dog or cat than the people around you? Maybe sneaking away outside to take a quiet breath of fresh air. Possibly finding yourself cleaning in a stranger or friend's kitchen while the party goes on around you? Sigh, me too. Does being in the spotlight make you feel uncomfortable? This pattern is centered around protecting ourselves. For many of us with neurodivergent brains, life, social gathering, and relationships can feel unpredictable. Our brains and bodies may tell us to stay on the edges so we can observe and not be the one being observed. We spend our time giving, loving, planning, coordinating and filling everyone's cup, but do you let any one fill your cup?
If you're still reading this then I am guessing some of this resonates. I help neurodivergent folks who are ready for something new. The people who may be uncomfortable being witnessed, but are ready to challenge that pattern. The individuals who have always felt different or broken because of the way their brain works. We will look at the darker sides to ourselves that we often try to silence, but we will also celebrate the light!
I have spent the greater part of the last decade learning a dynamic and experiential approach to processing trauma and the experiences we endure in everyday life. I have worked in residential programs, mental health clinics, community outreach, and recreation therapy and all have taught me something valuable... Being a human is complicated! I have found in my own journey with ADHD that when we have someone helping us look from the outside in we can see and understand the larger tapestry that is life. I specialize in supporting ages 15+ navigate the complexities of life such as developmental trauma, attachment, ADHD/AUDHD and much more.
In practice, we will work to create a collaborative, safe, and supportive environment that fosters the healing process and gives you the opportunity to not only witness yourself, but to be witnessed.
